Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Happy Halloween

1 Nov

Halloween 2011 was a success for DadandBuried and fam.

We dressed as the Taylors from “Friday Night Lights,” with the exception of our son, who went as a monkey. He is neither old nor blonde enough to go as Julie Taylor, and he is neither female enough nor weird-looking enough to go as the Taylor’s baby daughter Gracie. So he stuck with the monkey outfit, and crushed it, while MomandBuried and I held it down as Coach and Tami Taylor.

Wanna see?

Here’s a glimpse:

The costumes got a lot of positive reactions, largely because the only people that had any idea who we were clearly watched the show, and to watch “Friday Night Lights” is to love “Friday Night Lights.”

I’m considering storing the outfit away so I can be Coach Taylor again next year. Those are my favorite kinds of costumes, the ones where I’m merely dressing up as a normal guy, just in different clothes than I’d usually wear. And for many Halloweens to come, thanks to a wife who is a Halloween fanatic and a son I’ll need to escort around to pick up candy (that I will be eating most of), I will need to wear a costume. Might as well keep it simple.

And there are far worse people to pretend to be than Coach Eric Taylor.

So what did you go as?

Fantastic costumes. One set of my neighbors were Charlie Sheen & a goddess, but the rest of us dressed as “parents with cameras. And beer.”

I shouted “Clear eyes!” at two trick-or-treating teens wearing Titans football jerseys, but it turns out that they were just wearing their team shirts, and they had no clue what FNL was.

Hey! I’d love to know where you got your panthers jacket and hat. I’m looking for some for my boyfriend for a TV themed party we’re going to.

My wife actually made it! She found a blue windbreaker and printed the logo and stuck it on.
